“One From Hundred Thousand” Social Innovation Symposium|Season 18: Community Making in the Nothern Metropolis
|
The "Northern Metropolis Action Agenda 2023" reveals that the Northern Metropolis (NM) will become a Development Pole, driving the strategic growth of Hong Kong for the next 20 years. The exponential increase in the number of people living and working in NM will create new social needs and community patterns. The concluding symposium of PolyU Jockey Club "Operation SoInno" will explore how the concepts of "Urban-rural Integration", "15-minute City" and "Social Service Integration" will help optimise and proactively respond to the diverse needs of a large number of newly developed communities and support the co-existence and integration of existing and new communities in NM. This sets forth a direction of community making to create sustainable inclusive communities and a holistic and vibrant NM.
Keynote Speakers:
- Ms Bernadette LINN Hon-ho, JP, Secretary for Development, Development Bureau, HKSAR Government
- Prof. LING Kar-kan, SBS, Director, Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation, PolyU

Prototype of Cleaner’s Trolley Assembled
|
Following the Co-creation Workshop held in February 2024, social designer Mr. Chan Ka Hing has developed two prototypes of cleaner's trolley based on the actual needs of the cleaners. After months of design and assembly, two trolleys with different lengths and functions have been produced.
The trolleys feature special brakes and additional storage for trash bins and tools. The trolleys have undergone lab test on the feature functions, and we are now conducting street trials to gather user feedback, with the goals of reducing the workload, enhancing safety awareness, and improving the work conditions for cleaners.
